Jim and I, nearly 22 years happily together, always sensed something was off in the world around us. It felt like living in a matrix, where the truth was obscured, and everyone seemed oblivious to how the world really worked. Then came COVID, confirming our suspicions and pushing us to make a drastic change. We decided to leave the West, seeking true freedom, and moved to El Salvador, a country we believe is heading in a hopeful direction.
El Salvador welcomed us with its vibrant sunsets, warm people, and a breath of fresh air called freedom. Here, the air feels different; it's charged with the energy of a nation on the cusp of transformation. Freedom of speech isn't just a phrase; it's in the air we breathe. Financial freedom, too, is more than just an idea. Bitcoin has become a symbol of autonomy here, a tool for the people to reclaim their economic sovereignty. We've settled into a life where the chaos of the world seems distant. Every morning, we wake to the sounds of nature, immersing ourselves in the tranquility of our new home. Our basset hounds enjoy the freedom of this lush landscape, while our cats are slowly acclimating to their new environment.
Adjusting to life here has been surprisingly smooth. Our days are filled with simple pleasures like local cuisine and the joy of new friendships we've found here. One of the main reasons we moved was to have more time for our animals, whom we consider our children; back in the West, we had to work so extremely hard due to the high cost of living, feeling that our pets were becoming victims of our busy lives. Here, we have the time to focus more on 'our family,' giving them the attention and adventure they deserve.
We haven't missed our old lives for one second. We hope to stay connected to the people we love via this Substack journal, where they can follow our adventures. Maybe we can motivate some of them to follow our example because if we can do it, everyone can.
